The Pousada has an elevated position providing excellent views over the River Minho and neighbouring Spain. The ancient town dates back to Roman times due to its logistic position and the cobbled narrow streets of the old quarter is definitely worth a visit. The forts of the town provided a problem to Napoleon and his army in 1809 for the town successfully resisted his assaults. The Pousada is located within one of the defending forts. There is a swimming pool for the convenience of the guests.
