The Pousada has a panoramic view to south towards the Serra de São Mamede which is part of the eastern Alentejo. The walled hamlet of Marvão with its narrow streets lies at 862 metres (2,838 ft), and with a spectacular escarpment facing Spain. Due to its location it has been the scene of many battles from even before the times of the Moors onwards and it strong battlements has often afforded it the necessary protection. Its dramatic presence on the landscape has made it a popular subject in Portuguese fables, poems and song. There are twenty six rooms and three suites supported with a restaurant and bar.
