The recently restored extensive castle from the Moorish ruins is located on a promontory overlooking the peaceful valley of the River Sado which is to the southeast of Lisbon. The small town was an important site in Roman times for the culture of salt and there is a record of a fort existing as early as 6th centuries BC. The area is well known for the multiple species of birds that can often be seen and for its many stork nests. The Pousada has thirty three rooms and two suites, and with a restaurant and bar and also disabled guest facilities. The town of Alcácer do Sal is within convenient reach of Lisbon by using the Motorway. We also recommend that you visit the Rice Museum at Comporta and the village of Torrão.
