Any form of vessel that moves on water is of interest to the
Portuguese. They have a long history of marine voyages and
their subsequent important land discoveries.
Besides the natural harbours there are very few man-made
Marinas along the Portuguese coastline. At the present
time there exists a marina in Lisbon and a completed
one at Cascais. The biggest Marina is at Vilamoura
in the Algarve, whilst, a smaller one is to be found at
Lagos and another at Vila Real de Santo António.
Recently completed is a Marina at Portimão and another
in Albufeira.
It is possible to charter yachts and boats from both
Vilamoura, Portimão and Lagos Marinas.
On most beaches, especially in the south, visitors
can hire smaller sailing boats from Beach Sport
Centres. It is important to note that the Portuguese
authorities have regulations and rules relating to
security and awareness of these is advisable.
