The Portuguese coastal waters provide some acceptable
surfing accompanied by the warm climate and reasonable
temperature of the sea. It probably offers the best
possible location for this sport in Europe.
A particularly challenging beach is the famous
"Guincho" east of the city of Lisbon.
The waves here can range from one to three metres but
an under-current has to be constantly considered.
Another popular location is "Praia Grande"
on the north coast. South of Lisbon down to the
Algarve there are many open sandy beaches that offer
surfers the opportunity to ride the waves that come
in from the western Atlantic Ocean. |
