Lagos during the festive season

Postby andymerc » Mon Dec 10, 2007 5:12 pm

My wife and I have visited Lagos in the summer and found it buzzing with places to eat and drink. This time, we are coming over on Boxing day for a week and are concerned that the place shuts down at this time of year.

What is Lagos like during the winter?

Sorry to make you envious but we've just arrived in Lagos for a 3 week stay. We come over for every Xmas.

It's obviously not packed out like in August but you'll find plenty of restaurants and bars open, particularly the bigger ones and those in the centre. There's even a few open on Xmas Day.

I guess that 40% close down for a Xmas/New Year break but you'll know that there are hundreds of eateries and watering holes, so you won't starve and you'll be able to get that all important Super Bock.

And the lights etc in the street put the UK to shame.

Lagos over the festive season

Now I am going to make you even more envious.

We live here, having spent the las few years coming out for three months over Christmas and New year, we took the plunge last year and don´t regret it one bit.

There are more than enough restaurants etc open over the christmas period, some tend to close the first week in January for a couple of months or if they need refurbishment etc.

As "itsmeagain" mentioned, the lights are fantastic although the camara have cut down a bit over the last couple of years, also the fireworks over new year are great with a super atmosphere on the avenida.

Come and enjoy. :D

We're still coming...

Mmm. Just had an email from our solicitor saying that the builders still haven't got their habitation licence so she can't sign the contract and get the deeds. She reckons it might not be before Christmas now, so we could end up sleeping in the car!

Joking apart, we have some friends who have a place in Pria de Luz and they have offered to let us use it for just such an emergency. At least we have a plan B.

Thanks for the offer, I may well take you up on it. At the moment, however, we are trying to persuade the developer to pay for an apartment. We only booked the flights AFTER they gave us a date to sign the deeds, which will now be missed because of them.

I haven't made it to Portugal yet, but it is probably the next place I am going to venture to. I was in Spain two years ago and wish I made the stop here. I am really interested to learn about some indigenous places to travel and eat. Any specific suggestions? Thanks! :)
