Don't know if we have previously had one. Is anybody having a go at learning? Is there a place for a phrase a day / week? Share your triumphs / embarrassments?

I am doing the free course run by Camara de Lagos. So far we have learnt the alphabet!! Three weeks of ABC when will we get to the verbs and sentences I ask? Perhaps that is why it runs for a year. It is very difficult for the teacher as she has German, French, English, Bulgarian & Polish students to teach and translate the questions. Good fun though and everyone is friendly and helpful.

You are very fortunate Candalagos we are paying £80.00 a term (over three terms, yes £240.00 a year) to our cracking UK Government for the privalage of being totally tied in knots with our O que é and our O que está.

When I learnt Welsh here I even had to pay for the privalage of learning my own language which had been denied me by successive Westminster Governments.

Take the free tuition whilst it is on offer, it's far more satisfying than paying for it!

Harrow Council are charging us over £100 each for a 15 week course - good though.

Practical Portuguese - a book and CD by Sheila Watts (available through Algarve Resident or in PDM Travel in Lagos) is pretty good if you have the discipline for self study that we lack!
